How to Check Out

If you are planning to officially leave WKU housing (anytime during the year, at the end of the fall semester, or before summer break), please follow these instructions to officially check out of your residence hall:

Step 1: Prepare Your Room

  1. Unplug and defrost your fridge. Make sure you have plenty of time to do so, and use a towel to collect any excess water that drains.

  2. Remove all trash from your room. Take large items to the designated dumpster near your hall. Do not leave trash in the building. Clean out the trash can.

  3. Remove ALL personal belongings from your room.

  4. Return the furniture to the original arrangement.

  5. Sweep the room. Mop the floor, if necessary. Brooms and mops are available for checkout at the front desk.

  6. Close and lock windows.

  7. Depending on what thermostat is in your room, set the thermostat to 72 degrees and the fan to auto - or - halfway in the blue section, fan on medium.

  8. Turn off the lights.

  9. Lock the door.

Step 2: Check Out

Officially check out by completing the express checkout envelope and returning the envelope and room key to the front desk.

Your key must be returned at the time of checkout to avoid an additional charge.
