All full-time undergraduate students are required to live on campus for two years. Exemptions for this policy include students who:

Are veterans of military service (181 days or more)

Are Married

Are the primary caregiver for dependent children

Are 21 years of age or older, prior to the first day of classes

Are members of fraternities or sororities living in the chapter house (two semesters on campus and 30 credit hours earned)

Are commuting from their parent/guardian's permanent home and primary residence (50 miles or less)

Have earned 60+ credit hours AND have lived on campus for two semesters
Students can apply for housing through the Housing Portal.
Upon execution of the contract by both parties and payment of the application fee, the contract becomes effective and constitutes a binding contract for the full academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters), or the remaining portion thereof. Any student who remains enrolled, but withdraws from University housing during the contract period without being released from this contract, will:
- Be assessed a contract termination fee in the amount of 50% of the student’s semester
housing charge
- And be assessed any applicable housing fees (room charge through the official date of withdrawal, or assessment of the required housing fee for non-compliance with the required housing policy.)
Starting with the 2022-2023 academic year, HRL is changing the housing application from the $150 refundable deposit to a nonrefundable $75 application fee.
Students who applied for housing with the $150 refundable deposit prior to the 2022-2023 application period will still receive their deposit after leaving WKU Housing, provided no damage or cleaning charges are assessed at checkout.
Approved appliances include: stereos, televisions, VCR/DVD players, computers, clocks, coffee makers, hair dryers, lamps, curling irons, curlers, fans, compact refrigerators (5 cubic feet or less) and microwaves (1000 watts or less). All appliances must be UL approved.
Due to general safety and fire codes, certain restrictions must be placed on the use of certain appliances. The following items may not be used in student bedrooms: halogen lamps, potpourri kettles, George Foreman grills, crock pots, hot plates, grills, electric skillets, toasters, and toaster ovens. Anything with an open coil or element is not permitted. There are kitchens in every residence hall for residents to use.
Each residence hall has a bank of mailboxes located in the lobby area. Each resident's room key will open their mailbox which corresponds with their room number. The US Postal Service makes daily deliveries and pick-ups from each hall with the exception of Sundays and holidays. There is also a full service Post Office located on campus.
Packages are received at the front desk from all package carriers. A package slip is created and placed in the resident's mailbox. Residents will bring the package slip to the front desk with photo ID to claim the package.
All mattresses on campus are size extra long twin: 80" x 36"

No. We urge each student to purchase some form of insurance, whether it be renter's insurance or a rider on their parent's homeowner's insurance.
The University is not liable for theft, damage or loss of personal belongings from any part of the residence hall. National Student Services is a company that provides student insurance.
WKU does not require any immunizations or proof of vaccination for admittance to the university. Please consult your health care provider for additional information and specific recommendations for your circumstances.
However, some vaccines are recommended for students living in the residence halls.
Yes, there are a variety of student employment opportunities for students. Students must meet eligibility requirements and have a FAFSA on file to be eligible to work on campus.
